This view, looking outward from the Alamo,
frames the state flag of Texas. The fateful
seige of the Alamo was instrumental in
obtaining Texass independence from Mexico at the subsequent
battle of San Jacinto, with
the cry of remember the Alamo. Originally
a Spanish mission, it was then used as a fort,
and is currently designated as a National
Historic Site. It continues to be used as a
symbol of courage in the extreme, as all of the defenders perished
in the seige of the fort. Here, a telephoto lens
compresses the apparent distance between the arched opening and
the flag. |
