This peaceful scene is one of the delights
of visiting the world-famous Butchart
Gardens of Victoria, British Columbia.
It felt just wonderful relaxing next to the pond! Water lilies
float on the surface of the pond, but send their roots down to
the mud at the bottom. The floating leaves help to dampen the
wave action, keeping the water calm. Unlike other plants, water
lilies have their stomata located on the topside of their leaves,
to be next to the air. |
