When I began this exposure, there was just
the barest hint of color visible on the horizon. When I closed
the shutter ten minutes later, the sky was pitch black. On the
film, all of this wondrous light had built up in the sky, and
reflected in the waters of the Russian River, at River Bend,
in Forestville, California. The moon on the left, was actually
a thin crescent which had moved across the sky during the exposure,
enlarging its apparent size. The movement of the cloud bank against
the still silhouettes of the trees adds a somewhat surreal atmosphere
to the scene. |
