This beautiful redwood forest is located in
Armstrong Redwoods State
Reserve in Guerneville, California. It
is an area of great beauty and cathedral-like stillness; the
magnificent trees block out all outside noise. The redwoods thrive
in Northern California's fog, and can be found from Monterey
to the Oregon border within a narrow band just in from the coast.
Growing to over 300 feet [100m] in height, redwoods are the tallest
of all trees. Here, this stump is
brightened by a stand of redwood sorrel in the foreground, caught
in a shaft of light filtering through the dense forest canopy. |
