This large, statuesque bird stands about four
feet tall [1.2m] and has a wingspan of almost seven feet [2.1
m]. Its distinctive folded neck in flight is a common sight throughout
most of the United States. They catch fish by standing completely
still, and then quickly lunging forward and grab them with their
beaks. The heron has excellent eyesight, and is generally pretty
wary of humans. A long telephoto lens allowed me to get this
close to the bird. |
