These rusted remains of an old piling used
to be part of a rail line out to the coast. It carried gravel
to build a jetty at the mouth of the Russian River. Now located
within Goat Rock State
Park, California, these rugged forms forge
a silent link to the past. This is a marvelous study of the different
textures in the scene: the wood and iron against the rock, water,
and fog. The softness of the background fog makes the foreground
detail more prominent by contrast. |
