Breathtakingly beautiful Waimea Canyon, (10 miles [16
km] long and 3600 feet [1100 m] deep), was dubbed "The Grand
Canyon of the Pacific" by Mark
Twain. One is just awestruck by its immense
scale and beauty. There are layers of red rock, such as you'd
see in the American Southwest, that are then covered with an
absolutely lush coating of green vegetation. The light in the
canyon changes constantly due to the fog and cloud cover from
nearby Mt. Waialeale. An intensely pretty place! |
