The strong forms and colors of the foreground grape leaves dominate this foggy scene, and contrast with the soft pastel sky and indistinct forms of the distant trees. The delicate yellow color of the sky is produced from a mixture of afternoon sun and fog which leads the viewer's eye back to the sharper backlit grape leaves in the foreground. This scene was composed to have the trees sort of floating above the grapefield, halving the picture.
