The beautiful coloration of this male California Quail
(the State Bird) shows vividly against the neutral grays of the
surrounding rocks, and the out of focus greens of the foliage,
with its distinctive curved head plume visible (with the curve
echoed in the fern behind). Their habitat varies widely from
the moist coast out to the edge of the desert, and they range
from Washington down to Baja California. A large lens aperture
creates a narrow area of sharp focus, drawing attention back
to the bird. |
